Wow, what a great article with so much students interacting in the videoconferencing! I am dismayed many schools tech departments feel this way, because so many students could really benefit with learning globally.

I read this article with great interest. I recently have been conducting some training with the Skype software. I am finding that teachers can learn how to use the tool quickly and easily. I have also found that many have used Skype in other contexts outside of school and once prompted they start thinking of interesting ways to bring the outside world in to class. I'll be referencing this article in future sessions, thanks.

Very inspiring article confirming everything I've thought about Skyping. I'm trying to get it started in my school, but continue to be discouraged. I met with a consultant yesterday who had many reservations about my method - inexpensive webcam, mic, projector, and Skype. She felt we would be very disappointed in the quality (of both the webcam and using Skype as the communication method - jerky images, etc) and that it would cause the students to lose interest. I'm thinking it's worth a try since we don't have a $10,000 budget to do it her way (and won't and she knows that) - but maybe we'll just set up one station that all classes can use...
